One of the contestants for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbass Tajudeen, insists that the North-West geopolitical zone remains the “rightful place” to produce the Speaker. Explaining why the North-West should produce the Speaker on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Tajudeen said the zone got the most votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election and also have 26 percent of the total members in the House. “The North-West has seven states and in the last election, we gave the President-elect more than 2.7 million votes. In every presidential election before now, the region that gave the highest votes is almost always the North-West.  Speakership Race: Tajudeen Abbas The Most Preferred Candidate, Survey Shows. Chairman of the House committee on land transport, Hon. Tajudeen Abass has the highest chances of becoming the speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. The choice of Abass is the outcome of a survey conducted by Legislative Trends Assessors, a parliamentary research-based organisation. In the Report released by the organisation and signed by the Director, Communication, Research and Strategy, Dr. Abubakar Tijani, in Abuja at the weekend, the poll conducted among members-elect gave Abass a clear lead. Hon. Tijani said that 292 members-elect were interviewed out of which 188 voted in favour of Abass while 10 other candidates shared the remaining 104 votes. He said Abbas scored 64.3per cent of the votes received from the 292 respondents. He said six respondents were undecided as to the choice of candidate.
